Head of Department - Property

Job Role:

This is a fast paced position where the dynamic individual will have experience leading a team. You will have at least 5 years PQE experience working in property and conveyancing law, must have a following and strong network.. Head of Department responsibility will include staff management, marketing planning and networking.

They should be capable of running a team as well as their own caseload of freehold and leasehold sale and purchase files including new builds and help to buy.  They must be able to work on their own initiative and demonstrate a high level of client care.  They must have a passion for property law and be able to prove a real technical understanding of all processes from instruction to completion covering the full range of residential property matters together with a knowledgeable existing forward-thinking team.

Job Tasks:

  • Communicating with clients to receive instructions and give advice
  • Researching details about the property being bought or sold
  • Drafting official documents
  • Checking contracts on behalf of your clients
  • Working with estate agents, lenders and third party solicitors
  • Working with Land Registry documents and title deeds
  • Carrying out checks prior to drafting contracts to see if there are any structural issues with the property
  • The drafting and preparation of Land Registry documents and Report on Titles to clients
  • Dealing with the transfer of mortgage deeds
  • Carry out the exchange of contracts and complete the transaction
  • Dealing with re-mortgages, transfers of equity, shared ownerships, lease extensions, first registrations, bridging loans, auctions and high value properties
  • Calculate and deal with apportionments of rent and service charges for leasehold transactions
  • Dealing with, preparing and advising on residential tenancies and short assured tenancies

Key Skills:

  • Previous experience of working on residential property transactions is essentia
  • Previous experience of working on commercial property transactions is desirable
  • Takes a pragmatic, pro-active and commercial approach to transactions
  • Interest and enthusiasm for the property industry
  • Excellent attention to detail with strong written and oral communication skills
  • Takes responsibility for their own transactions and advice
  • Ability to deal with competing priorities and meet deadlines with good time management
  • Team player but self motivated
  • Maintain existing client relationships and be willing to generate new business opportunities for the department by networking, business development and marketing
  • Willing to be self sufficient (subject to work volumes) in terms of secretarial services in connection with these duties where necessary
