Mp Dodged Jail Despite Forging Invoices

April 24, 2019

Did you hear about the MP who dodged jail despite forging invoices?

Christopher Davies, the MP for Brecon & Radnorshire was recently sentenced to 50 hours community service and a fine. Having spent £700 on photographs, he was entitled to recover his expenses. Ordinarily, this would have been acceptable but he created 2 fake invoices so that he could split the costs across 2 accounts. Davies did not financially benefit from his crime, and there was no loss to the public purse. The sentencing judge said “It seems shocking that when confronted with a simple accounting problem, you thought to forge documents.” Regardless of what Davies was thinking of at the time, he should have known that what he was doing was wrong.

This public servant’s error of judgement shows how easy it is to fall foul of the law. JARMANS Solicitors undertakes all Criminal Defence matters including Fraud, Revenue & Customs investigations and Company Director Disqualifications.
